Why the enclosure stays sealed
A Thornhill sealed unit is not a junction box. It is not a good place to store extra wire nuts. It is not a puzzle.
Host utilities sometimes ask for the policy in writing before a crew is allowed on a pole. This is that writing.
- Identify the unit from the exterior label only.
- If the gasket, housing, or bond looks wrong, stop and call Indianapolis.
- Do not remove the cover to confirm a theory.
- Replacement units arrive sealed. Old units leave sealed.
We have had one documented case of a technician opening a unit against instruction. He was not on the next day’s roster. We do not consider that anecdote entertainment. We consider it the reason this page exists.
